Why You Should Get a Better Understanding of God’s Word
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. …” – John 1:1 – 51
You often hear the phrase “word of God” in the Bible, Church, and somewhere in the community. It has various interpretations in the Holy Scripture. It can pertain to the things that He has ordered, proclamations that He has addressed to humankind, words that He expressed to the prophets, and His written Word. Regardless of how you view and understand the phrase, it is essential to get the gist of it.
However, as the world becomes more advanced and liberated, it cannot be avoided that many get along with this progress. Although many positive things brought, several undesirable things create significant effects on everybody’s lives, especially their spirituality. These events can draw a person away from manifesting God’s orders and preaching His words. But, what is important is that they can stand back up on their feet and retake the path that they have strayed away from by getting a better grasp on His words. That said, here are some of the reasons to fully understand the Word of the Lord.
Change your ways
It is significant to obey God’s commandments and live up to His will as Christians. However, it is not that easy, especially that this world is filled with the good, bad, and ugly. There are times that people tend to forget their Christian roots and responsibilities because of the deceiving things that catch their eyes and minds. Hence, individuals develop different kinds of ways, actions, and habits that go against His teachings. But through reading the Holy Scripture or hearing His words, everyone will realize the weight and impact of their actions leading them to make some changes their lifestyles, ways, and more.
Be guided in life
Life is the biggest puzzle that people are trying to solve. There are many decisions to be made and things to evaluate. To be guided in this journey, seeking, following, and preaching his Word are the best options. According to 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” Apart from the Holy Scripture, there are other mediums where you can get a better understanding of His words and be more guided in life, such as Mark L. Spell’s book Fresh Fire on doctrine and biblical philosophies.
When you get a better grasp on the Word of God, you become more confident in facing life and making judgments. You will also create room for improvements and take opportunities as a result of His guidance.
Get closer to God
Becoming closer to God is a wish granted for every Christian. Everyone knows that once they enter Christianity, they are already connected with Him and are bound to obey Him. The sense of comfort and fulfillment that your bond with Him gives is incomparable. However, like all relationships, it should be given and take. He doesn’t ask too much apart from following Him and believing in Him, which you should follow. The moment that you change your ways, focus on obeying Him and communicate with Him through praying and hearing His words, you will develop a sense of contentment that you cannot find elsewhere.
See know the story of salvation
As part of the Christian family, it is significant to know the history of salvation because it plays a great role in forming the foundations of Christianity. You can get to know more about it through the word of God embedded in the Bible. Salvation history pertains to the formulation of God’s will to the vindication of humankind, beginning from the Fall and carrying on through Moses, Jesus, and to the Second Coming, until the New heaven and earth.
